Bone Anchored Hearing Aids (BAHA)
Allison Audiology & Hearing Aid Center, P.C. in Houston, Texas has a solution for every patient that visits our office. When most patients think of hearing loss and hearing needs, the idea of a traditional hearing aid comes to mind. But what about patients who need a different option? Patients who have middle or outer ear challenges can greatly benefit from the use of a bone anchored hearing aid.
The Bone Anchored Hearing Aid (BAHA) is an option to address your specific hearing needs. While a BAHA is not for everyone, it is designed to transmit sounds through the skull, going directly to the cochlea within the inner ear, and stimulating the auditory nerve.
Notice with the described path, the sound is bypassing the outer and middle ear areas.
If a patient lacks an outer ear, does not have an ear canal, or has medical conditions effecting the middle ear space, the BAHA is a system that will allow sounds to be heard on the effected side.
The BAHA may be surgically implanted or it can be worn on a band that allows the BAHA to be removed as desired.
In some cases, insurance may provide some level of coverage for a BAHA system. Our office will work with you to inform you of your plan coverage.
If you feel a BAHA may be a solution for you, we invite you to schedule a visit with our office.
As with any hearing solution, we will explain your hearing loss and BAHA candidacy, and guide you through the journey to better hearing.
