Your Houston Audiology experts at Allison Audiology & Hearing Aid Center, P.C. are proud to be one the few private practice clinics that offer cochlear implant services.
For patients with severe hearing challenges, beyond the capabilities of hearing aids a cochlear implant may be a viable solution for you. We will explain cochlear implant candidacy, show how cochlear implants work, and how implants can address your specific challenges when you visit our office.
Given the complex nature of cochlear implants by design, candidacy is required to be considered for implantation. We perform full cochlear implant evaluations to determine if a patient meets requirements, perform the initial activation, and provide on-going programming support for years to come. There are several surgical groups in the Houston area who will perform the implant procedure. We will help you navigate the process and know what to expect each step of the way.
Unlike most, we work with insurance companies to seek coverage for cochlear implant needs. This includes coverage from Medicare and traditional insurance groups if your plan allows.
If you or a loved one are interested in learning more about cochlear implants and how they can improve not only your hearing abilities, but overall quality of life, contact our office. We know there is a significant amount of information surrounding cochlear implants; we are your partners to guide you through that journey.
What is a Cochlear Implant?
A cochlear implant is a specialized, implanted hearing device that replaces the function of the cochlea, located in the inner ear.
Unlike hearing aids that amplify sound, cochlear implants send stimulation directly to the hearing nerve, allowing the patient to hear in an entirely different way.
