We only get one shot in this world, so why not enjoy it?

September is Healthy Aging Month. Age is just a number, as they say – so why not inject a bit of happy, healthy fun into your life to ensure you’re keeping yourself at your absolute peak? We only get one shot in this world, so why not enjoy it?

Here are our top 5 ways to live life to the very fullest in your older years:

Get yourself moving

There is no greater shortcut to a happy and healthy body and brain than getting the blood flowing. If you’re not a fan of traditional sports such as jogging or the gym, why not try something a little bit off the wall? Why not try a disco dance class, or maybe even ten pin bowling? Little known fact: the weight of the ball and the throwing movement actually helps coordination and balance, reducing the chance of falls.

Stand up straight

This extremely simple movement is a quick and easy way to look your best. Look in a mirror and hold your stomach in, your chin up and your shoulders back. Can you see the instant difference? Try doing this every day for a physical and mental boost.

Try something new

If you’re feeling lonely, stop wasting precious time worrying and have a look around. How about volunteering at a local charity event? Or maybe you could treat a friend to lunch? If you’re not too confident with computers, how about taking a class? There are plenty of ways to spend time and meet new people if you put a bit of energy in.

Change your diet

How long have you been eating the same foods? Trying a new, healthy diet (if your health permits) is an excellent way to feel refreshed and invigorated. For example, a fish and fresh vegetable-rich Mediterranean diet improves both heart health and memory.

Take advantage of the latest technology

We are living in a digital age, and technology is advancing faster than ever before. Use these new tech toys to your advantage. Did you know how advanced hearing aids have become lately? You can connect directly to your TV, your digital radio and even answer your phone, all through this amazing new technology. Contact us to find out more.

Embrace your advancing years, seize every opportunity you get, and live your life to the absolute fullest.

Do you know somebody that needs to see this? Why not share it?

Jana Emola-Austin, Au.D.

Raised in Bryan, Texas, Jana completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University before attending the University of North Texas with an ambition to earn her master’s degree in speech pathology. However, a required audiology class soon set her on a new career path. She became enthralled with the subject and says audiology resonated with her because it involved everything she enjoys – helping people to improve their lives and relationships with others and using technology to make positive impacts. Following this revelation, Jana went on to graduate with her Doctor of Audiology degree. After many years of assisting patients in the clinic on a daily basis, Jana’s main responsibilities at Allison Audiology have shifted to a management role. She now works behind the scenes focusing on administrative, management, and marketing responsibilities.
