Does Insurance Cover Hearing Aids?

Our team verifies insurance benefits for each patient so that you are fully informed at your visit.

With the rising costs of health care, one of the most frequently asked questions our team at Allison Audiology and Hearing Aid Center receives is “Does insurance cover hearing aids?” The short answer: “Sometimes.”

Insurance coverage depends on the insurance carrier and the plan itself. While many of our patients do have hearing aid coverage, other patients with the same carrier may not. For example, just because one patient with BlueCross BlueShield has hearing aid coverage at 80%, another patient with a similar plan from the same insurance group may not. This variance in coverage is all dependent on the plan administrator, such as an employer or representative.

One employer may elect to offer coverage for medical equipment and services, but another may decline in order to make coverage more affordable for all. Because coverage is not uniform, it is important to verify and know your insurance benefits in order to fully understand what is available under your specific plan.

To make this journey easier for you, our team verifies insurance benefits for each patient so that you are fully informed at your visit. For questions regarding your coverage, we encourage patients to let our insurance team help guide you through the process. The first step is to submit your insurance information so that our team may contact your carrier.

How much does insurance pay for hearing aids?

Much like the explanation above, the amount covered for hearing aids can vary by plan. While some plans cover the cost entirely, others may cover a portion, or some may cover only the hearing test and not the hearing aids.

In some states, insurance is required to cover hearing aids, cochlear implants, and related hearing services for children 18 and under. In Texas, this includes hearing devices in each ear, eligible for replacement every 36 months. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association has information available for each state to further explain coverage.
