Earmold Impressions at Allison Audiology in Houston & Lake Jackson

For any customized ear piece, the process begins with an impression of your ear.  From there we select the device that best fits your needs. Once received, we ensure proper fit and feel.

To take an earmold impression, your hearing provider will first inspect your ear canal to ensure it is healthy and there is no debris that will impact the integrity of the overall impression. Once the canal is inspected, a cotton block will be placed in the canal. This protects the eardrum and keeps material from going any further down the canal than necessary. Once the otoblock is in place, the earmold impression material can be inserted into the canal.

For hearing protection and in-ear monitors, it is also important to keep the jaw in an open position while the impression material is curing. This is achieved by placing a block between the teeth.

For hearing protection and in-ear monitors, it is also important to keep the jaw in an open position while the impression material is curing. This is achieved by placing a block between the teeth.

Once the earmold impression material cures, it can be removed. To ensure a successful earmold or custom product, your hearing care provider will ensure certain landmarks on the earmold impression are obtained. For example, a full concha bowl for a secure fit, and ensuring the first and second bends are observed on the ear canal portion.
