I Wore ReSound Sensia to a Packed Tex-Mex Restaurant. Here's What Happened.

I Wore ReSound Sensia to a Packed Tex-Mex Restaurant. Here's What Happened.

If you wear hearing aids, you probably know this feeling. One-on-one, you do fine. Then comes the restaurant, the family dinner, the table where everybody is talking at once. You lean in, you watch lips, you smile and nod, but you’re missing the conversation. By the end of the night you are worn out from working so hard just to keep up.

That is the number one thing patients tell me in my chair at Allison Audiology. And for years, my response has been that hearing aids help, but noise is still the hardest part. While noise is still challenging, we finally have better tools to help in those demanding environments.

I want to tell you about something I do not get to say very often: A hearing aid surprised me. And I’m a tough critic.

ReSound Sensia is a premium AI hearing aid from GN, released in August 2026, built to improve hearing in background noise. I have been fitting it at Allison Audiology in Houston since its release.

How Does Resound Sensia Perform In A Noisy Restaurant?

ReSound Sensia performed better in a noisy restaurant than any hearing aid I have worn. A couple of weeks ago I wore ReSound's new Sensia hearing aids to dinner with my family.

Fifteen of us went to Alicia’s Mexican Grille on the Northwest Freeway. There’s tile floors, a packed dining room, and mariachi music on the overhead speakers. It’s the kind of place where I expected everything to get so loud, I would end up taking the hearing aids out.

Instead, the opposite happened. I heard my cousins and aunt across from me, even nearing the end of the table. At one point I took them out to compare on versus off, and I felt the difference immediately. I was concentrating and so focused on understanding each word, I was working hard to listen. I put the devices back in, and the room got easy again.

On the drive home, music in the car sounded natural. I did not hear the air conditioning blowing across the microphones like I expected, and in Houston in August, we had it on the highest setting.

I did not notice the road noise change as the pavement did, and every Houstonian knows you go through a series of different road toppings from the Northwest Freeway to Beltway 8 to I-10. But none was bothersome like I thought it would be. Those are small things, but they are the small things that people mention, so they’ll matter to you.

What Makes Resound Sensia Different?

ReSound Sensia is the first hearing aid that automatically decides when to focus, how narrowly to focus, and how to clean up the voice you want, all at the same time. Here is what that means in practice.

If you have worn hearing aids for a while, you have had directional microphones before. They cut down a little of the noise behind you and to the sides. But they still tend to grab the loudest sounds and can get confused on what you’re actually wanting to hear. The strongest setting was usually a separate program you had to remember to turn on.

Sensia changes that in two ways.

First, the two hearing aids work as one system. All four microphones talk to each other across your head and form a much narrower beam of focus in the direction you are facing. You look at the person or direction you want to hear, and Sensia locks in.

Second, using the new AcoustIQ system, there is a chip inside trained to classify the environment and know the difference between a voice and everything else, and it pulls that voice out of the noise. ReSound calls this deep neural network denoising, or DNN denoising, and on Sensia, it runs automatically.

The biggest change is not the microphones or DNN denoising. It is that the hearing aid now knows when to use these features, how narrow to make the microphone beam, and how to run the voice chip at the same time, without you touching anything. ReSound calls this Intelligent All-Around sound processing.

The part that reads the room is called AcoustIQ, and it is what decides when the beam and the voice chip turn on. No other hearing aid on the market is doing that combination. ReSound reports that Sensia's environment classification is 88% more accurate than the closest premium competitor, and its speech-in-noise performance was validated by independent researchers at Hörzentrum Oldenburg in Germany.

Does Resound Sensia Use AI, And Is It Private?

ReSound Sensia uses AI, but nothing leaves your ear. This is not the kind of AI that listens to you and sends it off to the internet. The training happened in a lab, on millions of samples of speech and noise, and the result of that training lives on the chip inside the hearing aid. Your hearing aids do not need a phone, an app, or a signal to do this. It is already built in.

Who Is Resound Sensia A Good Fit For?

ReSound Sensia makes the most difference for people whose biggest struggle is conversation in noise: restaurants, family gatherings, church, meetings. The full automatic noise system lives in the top technology level, so that is the version to ask about if noise is your main complaint. But given the new chip and processing, clearer, more natural sound will be experienced as well, even in quiet environments.

Sensia also comes with Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast built in. That means it streams calls and music from your phone, and it can receive audio broadcast directly from places that offer it, like churches, theaters, and airports. More Houston venues are adding Auracast, and Sensia is ready for them without an upgrade.

What Do Patients Say About Resound Sensia?

Patients describe ReSound Sensia as a clear step up from their previous hearing aids, especially in noise. I fit a patient with Sensia last week. His words were: "These are a quantum leap from my previous hearing aids… You'd have to pry these (Sensias) out of my cold, dead hands."

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is ReSound Sensia worth upgrading to?

A: If background noise is your main complaint, yes. Sensia's automatic noise handling is the biggest improvement I have heard in that area. If you are mostly in quiet settings, you will notice a difference in sound quality that is now more natural.

Q: What is the difference between ReSound Sensia and ReSound Vivia?

A: They share the same look and size. Sensia has entirely new software that recognizes conversation in noise and engages the focused beam and voice chip automatically, where Vivia required the wearer to switch programs.

Q: Does ReSound Sensia work in restaurants and background noise?

That is what it was built for. Four microphones across both ears form a narrow beam toward the person you are facing, and an onboard chip pulls that voice out of the noise, all without touching a button.

Q: What is Intelligent All-Around on ReSound Sensia?

A: Intelligent All-Around is the automatic sound processing system on ReSound Sensia. It reads your surroundings, and when it recognizes conversation in noise, it engages the four-microphone beam and DNN denoising together without you changing a program.

Q: Does ReSound Sensia have Bluetooth?

A: Yes. ReSound Sensia supports Bluetooth LE Audio for streaming from phones and Auracast for receiving broadcast audio in public venues that offer it.

Q: Where can I try ReSound Sensia in Houston?

A: Allison Audiology in Houston fits ReSound Sensia. New patients begin with a hearing evaluation; current patients can call to schedule a fitting.
