The ReSound Tinnitus Relief app may provide some much needed care and relaxation

If your tinnitus makes you feel stressed and frustrated, the ReSound Tinnitus Relief app may provide some much needed care and relaxation. With it, you can escape into a world of soothing, calming sounds, meditate, and learn more about tinnitus in a simple to use format.

Jana Emola-Austin, Doctor of Audiology, reports her Allison Audiology & Hearing Aid Centers in Houston , Texas, recommend the Resound Tinnitus Relief app for those who report experiencing tinnitus and want to seek relief. To start exploring the app, download the app for free from the Apple App or Google Play stores. Search for “ReSound Tinnitus Relief.”

Dr. Austin shares “there are two versions: a complimentary edition and a fee-based subscription plan. For our patients, the complimentary version is recommended, and we often recommend this app be used in conjunction our own Tinnitus Relief Program.”

Get Started with Sound Therapy in the Resound Tinnitus Relief App!

When you open the app to the homepage, at the bottom of the screen you’ll notice four different options – Sounds, Relax, Learn, and My Relief.
Sounds offers a variety of sounds to listen to, with the goal of changing your auditory focus. Dr. Austin shares “many patients report immediate tinnitus relief when they hear certain sounds, also known as soothing sounds, which is great for when they are trying to sleep or focus on another task.”

To begin, tap Sounds to find a range of sounds to choose from. In addition, there are environmental, music, and therapeutic sounds to select as well.
The Sounds section features a timer at the bottom of the screen. Tap the timer icon to set the timer, so the sounds will automatically stop playing, for example, after you’ve fallen asleep.

Time to Relax with Tinnitus Relief!

“If listening to sounds doesn’t provide the relief you’re needing, relaxation techniques can be helpful. While our office customizes your Tinnitus Relief plan to you, if you have not yet started your plan, the Relax portion of the Resound Tinnitus app is a great option for you,” says Austin. The Relax area offers various therapy sessions to distract your mind from your tinnitus.

Tapping Relax offers the four following sections:

  • Guided Meditation – Choose from a range of relaxing meditation sessions.
  • Deep Breathing – Choose from three breathing exercises.
  • Imagery – Tap one of the pictures and play the accompanying video. For example, choose Brook. How does the running water visual and the trickling water sound make you feel? Hopefully, you’ll feel peaceful and get some reprieve from your tinnitus.
  • Pleasant activities – Here you’ll find a range of enjoyable activities to engage in that can shift your focus away from your tinnitus. Select an activity to receive a weekly reminder to do it.

Learn something new about tinnitus!

The Learn section is the ultimate tinnitus resource guide. It answers many common questions about tinnitus, shares advice, helps you to rethink how you react to your tinnitus, and offers more information to use throughout your therapy program. “While general tinnitus is great for patients so they are informed, we encouraged anyone seeking relief from tinnitus to contact our office so that we can begin customizing a relief plan specifically for them,” says Austin.

Track your progress

The My Relief section provides a breakdown of your app usage. Find out how much sound therapy, breathing exercises, meditation, and imagery usage you’ve done within the last week.

From here, you can also access the latest app updates, such as new sounds, for free. Or you can subscribe to the premium app, which incurs monthly or annual fees, if you desire.

Set time aside to explore the app’s many features. No matter how mild or severe your tinnitus is, hopefully you will find it a useful tool to provide some relief and relaxation.

Jana Emola-Austin, Au.D.

Raised in Bryan, Texas, Jana completed her undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University before attending the University of North Texas with an ambition to earn her master’s degree in speech pathology. However, a required audiology class soon set her on a new career path. She became enthralled with the subject and says audiology resonated with her because it involved everything she enjoys – helping people to improve their lives and relationships with others and using technology to make positive impacts. Following this revelation, Jana went on to graduate with her Doctor of Audiology degree. After many years of assisting patients in the clinic on a daily basis, Jana’s main responsibilities at Allison Audiology have shifted to a management role. She now works behind the scenes focusing on administrative, management, and marketing responsibilities.
