What Can You Expect during Your First Appointment?

Scheduling a visit for a hearing check can be a big step, no matter if it’s for yourself or for a loved one. Because we follow audiology’s best practices and adhere to a patient-centered approach to audiological care, you can rest assured you are in the best hands when you visit our Houston hearing center.

During your first visit, our friendly staff will welcome you and introduce you to one of our doctors of audiology. Your audiologist will begin by getting to know you, which helps us understand your risks for ongoing threats and underlying causes of hearing loss, as well as provide you with an opportunity to express your concerns and questions regarding the hearing challenges you are experiencing.

Following our conversation, your audiologist will do a health check of your ear canal using an otoscope, which is a magnifying glass with a tapered tip and a light on the end. From there, you’ll undergo a diagnostic evaluation, assessing what sounds and at what levels they can be heard, as well as how well speech can be understood in quiet and in background noise.

Based on the concerns and symptoms reported, additional testing may be performed to assess the health of the auditory system. Because your hearing is as unique as your fingerprint, our assessments and recommendations are based on the unique needs of each patient.

For some, your first visit to Allison Audiology is for service on your hearing devices, Bluetooth connections, or hearing aid repairs. You can also rest assured that our team provides the necessary repairs, maintenance, or technical support necessary to ensure that your device continues to provide you with all the advantages of better hearing for which it was designed.

Even if you did not purchase your hearing devices from Allison Audiology, our experts have got you covered. We’re more than happy to help get you back onto the road to clearer hearing again.

My first time going today to this provider and it was a very pleasant experience. No long wait when I arrived. Most healthcare related providers these days seem to rush you in and out of their offices as fast as possible. I did not have that feeling of being rushed at all at Allison. The audiologist was very thorough in my testing and very detailed in her explanations and made sure I understood my options.

I attended my husband’s first appointment at this center and was very pleased with the care he received. He had been to another practice where we felt they were no longer interested in dealing with him. He has Alzheimer’s and is very hard of hearing. Dr. Kohout was very patient, thorough and had some suggestions as to what might be done to improve his hearing. We are very happy that we changed providers and look forward to future visits with the goal of improved hearing.

My experience with Allison Audiology has been great since the first day I stepped into the office. This was my first time dealing with a hearing specialist. Dr. Jana and her staff were wonderful. I felt at ease from the beginning. I was tested and fitted with the appropriate hearing devices. That was several months and I am living in a different world. A normal world of hearing! My devices are easy to use and have made such a difference in my daily life.
