If you are preparing for your first hearing screen with us here at Allison Audiology, you may have some questions. We have put together a list of frequently asked questions to help you feel prepared and confident about your appointment.
What does it actually involve?
To put it simply, we need to check the sounds you are able to hear through a series of completely non-invasive tests. These sounds can be different types of speech, music, or other everyday sounds. We also check there is no build-up of earwax as that can sometimes be an issue.
Will somebody be poking around in my ear?
We do have small inserts that we need to use to check your ears, but they exert the tiniest bit of pressure. In fact, it is no different to that small change you get when you fly on an airplane or go up in an elevator.
Does it hurt?
The hearing test process is pain-free. Our audiologists are highly trained and know exactly how the human ear works. We know which bits are sensitive and how to ensure that your experience doesn’t hurt one bit.
Where does it take place?
You’ll arrive at our friendly clinic and when it’s time for your appointment, you’ll be taken to sit in a tall chair so we can easily access your ears. A few initial tests will take place here, and after that, it’s off to the sound booth, just like the ones you see musicians use in music videos, for some other tests.
Does it take a long time?
Not long at all. In fact, at our office, we have a tagline: “it takes less time to have your hearing tested than it does to have lunch”. It’s a short appointment, but we manage to get plenty done.
And what will we find out?
The tests give two base level results, meaning we are able to work out where any issues stem from and the solutions available to you. We will sit and go through your personal requirements and your options.
